Education and Foreign Languages

Our Mission

Our mission in the Education and Foreign Languages Department at 精东影业 is to serve the diverse populations of the community in an academic setting through the application of best practices, quality assurance, innovations in teaching and learning, technology, and literacy to provide students with the skills to succeed in a work environment as paraprofessionals and to prepare students for transfer to a four-year university.

Associate Degree in Education

The Associate Degree in Education prepares students for work as a teacher’s assistant, substitute teacher, or other paraprofessional in elementary or secondary schools. The curriculum is designed for maximum transfer of credits to the Teacher Education Program (TEP) at a four-year university for those students planning to complete the Bachelor’s Degree in Education.

Note: Completion of the Associate degree in Education does not guarantee admission into the TEP.

Program Outcomes:

  1. Demonstrate competence in English with passing scores on the National Evaluation Series (NES) reading and composition subtests. Note: (NES is a teacher certification testing program from the Evaluation Systems group of Pearson).
  2. Demonstrate competence in Math with a passing score on the NES math subtest.
  3. Assess the transfer requirements for the 精东影业 Teacher Education Program (TEP) through the completion of the TEP.
  4. Identify the resources and process involved in obtaining a teaching license in New Mexico.
  5. Compare classroom teaching strategies and procedures following field classroom observations.
  6. Explain the American educational system through class discussions and written documents.

Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education

The Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education prepares students to become highly qualified teachers, assistant teachers, family daycare providers, or administrators of early education programs for children ages birth through age eight. Students will gain a broad understanding of the specific needs of young children and develop strategies for meeting those needs.

Program Outcomes:

  1. Employ effective oral and written communication skills necessary for mastery of the subject matter.
  2. Critique how diversity issues affect teaching and learning.
  3. Apply theories, concepts, and principles of child development explaining patterns of development and learning for young children.
  4. Evaluate various classroom models, management strategies, and dynamics.
  5. Explore instruction and curriculum based on formative and summative assessments and needs of diverse learners.
  6. Explain the historical aspects of early childhood education in the American educational system and how they have influenced contemporary methodologies and modern systems,
  7. Assess ethics related to teaching and learning in early childhood education.
  8. Identify career opportunities and requirements for obtaining New Mexico Teacher Certification.
